One of my favorite days of the year is November 10th—the Marine Corps birthday. I served in the Marine Corps, so I always mark the day, but this year was special: the 250th anniversary.

I’m deeply grateful I had the chance to be part of that institution. The people, the values, the culture—it blessed me and my family in ways I’m still realizing. It was a great season of our lives, and I’m proud of what the Marines stand for.

And here’s a little story that might hit home.

When I was about four years old, my mom took me to the mall just to escape the heat. The Army recruiter pretty much ignored me. The Marine recruiter didn’t. He kneeled down, talked to me, treated me like I mattered, and handed me a Semper Fi sticker. I put it on my bookshelf in my room.

I don’t know exactly how much that moment influenced my future, but I can tell you this: when I started thinking about joining the military, there was only ever one option in my mind.

Small actions matter. Especially around kids. You never know what sticks, or what it shapes.

Thank God for the United States Marine Corps.
