I got to visit Camp Lucy this past weekend for a beautiful wedding. Great eventāand extra special because my wife and I got married there over a decade ago.
If you havenāt been, Camp Lucy is a boutique hotel/wedding venue/restaurant/cool hangout spot tucked into Dripping Springs. Itās changed a lot over the years.
But then againāso has West Austin.
I used to tease friends for living way out in Lakeway. Now? It feels like a quick drive. I remember when Slaughter Lane was the end of Mopac. Now itās basically central Austin. The boundaries shift, and somehow our āoutskirtsā become our everyday.
Personally, Iām an optimist. I like change. I know not everyone does. But this has always been Austinās storyāgrowing, stretching, evolving. The challenge is keeping the character while the map keeps redrawing itself.
So hereās to Camp Lucy, new weddings, old memories, and whateverās next.
Cheers,
Nolan

For a Fatherās Day that feels more like a getaway, Quince delivers. This dreamy lakeside spot offers candlelit tables, DJ beats, and sunset views so good they might outshine your entrĆ©e (though the seared ahi salad and dynamite shrimp wonāt go quietly).
Itās part brunch, part vacation, and all-around beautiful. Whether you're celebrating Dad with cocktails, elotes, or just some serious ambiance, this place brings the vibe and the flavor. Check it out here.
8212 Barton Club Dr, Austin
Treat Dad to the steakhouse equivalent of a power move. Nestled inside the Omni Barton Creek, Bobās brings that classic, old-school steakhouse swagger: ribeyes done right, glazed carrots the size of a baseball bat, and service that makes you feel like a regularāeven on your first visit.
If Fatherās Day calls for filet and a lobster tail, Bobās is your go-to for a sharp suit kind of night. Check it out here.
10601 Ranch Rd 2222 Suite H, Austin
Let Dad pour exactly the pint he wants this Fatherās Dayāno judgment, no waiting. With self-serve taps offering beer, cider, wine, and cocktails by the ounce, itās his personal happy hour wall.
The foodās solid (hello crispy chicken Cobb), and the vibeās fun and family-friendly. Great for a chill outing with a side of lawn games, good eats, and plenty of ācheersā to go around. More details here.
Eanes ISD trustees voted 5-2 to postpone approving the 2025ā26 staff pay plan until August. A proposed 2% raise would increase the districtās projected shortfall to $7.8M, drawing concern about dipping below state fund balance guidelines.
Some trustees warned the delay could affect staff morale and recruitment, but the board opted to wait for possible legislative action before committing. The district will adopt its budget June 24, with pay plan approval expected in early August. Read more here.
The Gist: You have to see this documentary about the wild drama behind the Texas BBQ scene and the Black family. It gets into the huge family feuds, the old-school spots, and how Texas Monthly's top 50 list can literally make or break a restaurant. If you've been to Terry Black's or Black's near downtown, that's who this is about. And you can watch it now on YouTube or KXAN!
Why it matters: The crazy family drama they talk about is the exact reason we have Terry Black's here in Austin, which started after a major family split at the original Black's in Lockhart. Read more here.
This weekās landscaping update covers stressed-out lawns, goats on the job, and why plant names can be trickier than they sound. Bermuda and St. Augustine are throwing out seed headsāoften a sign your lawnās feeling the heat. Red yuccas are blooming beautifully, Texas sages are not one-size-fits-all, and yesāRent-A-Ruminant goats are munching their way through Austin greenbelts to help prevent fires.
Turns out, lawn care isnāt always just grass and sunshine.
