I got to visit Camp Lucy this past weekend for a beautiful wedding. Great event—and extra special because my wife and I got married there over a decade ago.

If you haven’t been, Camp Lucy is a boutique hotel/wedding venue/restaurant/cool hangout spot tucked into Dripping Springs. It’s changed a lot over the years.

But then again—so has West Austin.

I used to tease friends for living way out in Lakeway. Now? It feels like a quick drive. I remember when Slaughter Lane was the end of Mopac. Now it’s basically central Austin. The boundaries shift, and somehow our “outskirts” become our everyday.

Personally, I’m an optimist. I like change. I know not everyone does. But this has always been Austin’s story—growing, stretching, evolving. The challenge is keeping the character while the map keeps redrawing itself.

So here’s to Camp Lucy, new weddings, old memories, and whatever’s next.

💼 Eanes Delays Staff Pay Decision

Eanes ISD trustees voted 5-2 to postpone approving the 2025–26 staff pay plan until August. A proposed 2% raise would increase the district’s projected shortfall to $7.8M, drawing concern about dipping below state fund balance guidelines.

Some trustees warned the delay could affect staff morale and recruitment, but the board opted to wait for possible legislative action before committing. The district will adopt its budget June 24, with pay plan approval expected in early August. Read more here.

The Gist: You have to see this documentary about the wild drama behind the Texas BBQ scene and the Black family. It gets into the huge family feuds, the old-school spots, and how Texas Monthly's top 50 list can literally make or break a restaurant. If you've been to Terry Black's or Black's near downtown, that's who this is about. And you can watch it now on YouTube or KXAN!

Why it matters: The crazy family drama they talk about is the exact reason we have Terry Black's here in Austin, which started after a major family split at the original Black's in Lockhart. Read more here.
