Got to fish this past weekend, and it reminded me how underrated Austin is as a fishing town.
It’s not something people talk about much, but we’ve got some great spots. Deep lakes. Real rivers. Quiet inlets and stretches of water that still feel wild—if you know where to look.
You can be waist-deep in a line of traffic on Bee Caves at noon, and casting into a calm pocket of the Colorado by 4 p.m.
It’s not the coast, and it’s not a mountain stream, but it’s ours. And sometimes it’s good to connect to nature.
Cheers,
Nolan

🥙 Bee Cave’s Mediterranean gem
🍝 Why Austin loves Patrizi’s
🎓 Eanes ISD: what’s next?
🥳 Weekend wins: yoga, wine, and shark rides

4025 Ranch to Market Rd 620, Bee Cave
Tucked into the Shops at the Galleria, Artemis brings elevated Greek comfort food with neighborhood charm. The creamy stuffed chicken is a crowd favorite, and regulars rave about the gyros, souvlaki, and homemade lemonades.
It’s cozy inside, with patio seating and a full bar for happy hour sipping. Fresh flavors, warm service, and a few surprising finishes make this Bee Cave spot a Mediterranean must.

1705 Cuernavaca Dr N, Austin
A westside outpost of the beloved Austin pasta joint, this tucked-away gem near Lake Austin serves up handmade Italian comfort food with serious soul. The carbonara with rich egg yolk and crispy guanciale is a standout, and the garlic bread (made with focaccia!) is legendary.
Expect cozy courtyard vibes, friendly staff, and mocktails as memorable as the pasta. It's a detour worth making; this spot feels like old Austin in the best way.

The gist: Superintendent Jeff Arnett will retire from Eanes ISD on July 31, ending a nine-year tenure that included roles as deputy superintendent and, since 2022, as superintendent. His background also includes time as a teacher and work with the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
Why it matters: Arnett helped guide major initiatives like Envision Eanes and long-range facility planning. His departure signals a leadership shift for one of Texas’ highest-performing school districts and a close-knit community that values strong, stable leadership.

River’s up. Mushrooms are popping. And one scrappy lantana just earned the title of toughest bloom in Texas.
Upstream rain has the Llano running high, and that extra moisture might be why you’re seeing mushrooms (good thing—means your soil’s healthy).
Spotted a lantana blooming from a crack in the curb. No water, no shade—just pure grit.
And if your crape myrtle’s still on pause, relax. It’s just fashionably late.
Oh, and there’s a dad joke you didn’t know you needed. You’re welcome.
