After decades as a waterfront recreation spot, Windy Point Park has closed to visitors as its owner explores a potential transformation of the Lake Travis property.

The private park, located off Bob Wentz Park Road near The Oasis, shut down recently with no immediate plans to reopen. Bob Barstow, president of Windy Point Park Inc., said he is looking for a development partner to reimagine the site.

A new chapter in the works

Barstow hopes to attract interest in a mixed-use concept that could include a hotel, a marina, and a re-established park. While no formal proposals have been announced, he confirmed that he is actively seeking a tenant or developer who could help bring that vision to life.

“This is about finding the right fit,” Barstow said. “There’s real opportunity to create something that adds value to the lake and the community.”

A site with deep roots

Windy Point has been part of the Lake Travis landscape since the late 1940s. It gained its current name in 1982 and has long been known for its deep-water access and diving-friendly shoreline.

The land also includes an easement linked to the adjacent Bob Wentz Park, a public space operated by Travis County under a lease from the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA).

Possibility for joint development

Barstow said he’s open to working with LCRA as discussions move forward. A formal partnership has not been established, but he believes collaboration could improve outcomes for the land and its long-term use.

“There’s a shared interest here,” he said. “If we can align on a plan, it could benefit the broader Lake Travis area.”

For now, the park remains closed, with its next chapter still taking shape.
