The city of West Lake Hills and the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) have entered into a partnership to study the possibility of a new transportation trail along or near Eanes Creek. City Council approved the interlocal agreement on Oct. 8, setting the stage for a joint planning effort that could improve connectivity and safety in the area.

Study to assess trail feasibility

The Eanes Creek Trail study will examine options for creating a new route between Loop 360 and MoPac Expressway. According to city documents, the proposed trail would run roughly parallel to Bee Cave Road and offer a more comfortable and protected path for pedestrians and cyclists.

Under the agreement, CAMPO will lead the project and oversee consultant procurement, contract management, and public engagement, while coordinating with city staff throughout the process.

Funding and project timeline

The total project cost is estimated at $520,000, with CAMPO funding 80% of the study, about $416,000; and the city of West Lake Hills contributing the remaining $104,000.

The agreement remains in effect through September 30, 2027, and may be ended by either party with 30 days’ written notice.
