Last weekend, we had a pretty perfect Austin day.

I took two of my sons to Town Lake. Yes, Town Lake. It may officially be Lady Bird Lake, and I have nothing against Lady Bird, but I grew up calling it Town Lake. Changing the name still feels slightly wrong.

I ran a little over four miles while the boys rode their bikes and did their best not to take out anyone on the trail.

Then we met up with the whole family at Barton Springs and pretended we weren’t cold.

We were cold.

I did jump off the diving board, though, which remains one of the finest diving boards in Texas.

We finished at SNO Beach, still the best snow cone spot in Austin and still exactly as good as I remember it being as a kid.

A little sunburn. A lot of Austin. Really good day.

Why It Matters: Back-to-school lists have a way of adding up quickly, especially when you’re shopping for more than one student. A few dollars saved on new clothes, shoes and supplies can help take a little pressure off the budget before the first day of class arrives.
