I did a full health assessment last week at Medici. The whole package—ultrasound, labs, bone density, stress test, skin check, posture evaluation, and a dozen other things I didn’t know they could measure.

The process was both fascinating and a little terrifying. What are they going to find out? The initial verdict: I’m pretty boring. (Which, in this context, is a very good thing.) I’ll get a deeper readout in a couple weeks.

But here’s what stuck with me: this was a medical experience that didn’t stink. That’s rare. Most doctor visits feel like waiting rooms, fluorescent lights, and bad news. Preventive care that’s thorough, thoughtful, and actually pleasant? That seems like the kind of thing our healthcare system could use more of.

The Gist: A city memo recommends continuing the long-standing ban on swimming in Lady Bird Lake, citing safety and health risks. Officials noted ongoing dangers like drownings and toxic blue-green algae, which has killed six dogs since 2019. They also said the cost of making the lake safe for swimmers would be “substantial” and still leave serious risks.

Why It Matters: Lady Bird Lake is a local favorite for kayaking and paddling, but swimming will stay off-limits to keep both people and pets safe. For now, the lake is best enjoyed from a paddleboard, a kayak, or the trail alongside it.

Howdy, amigos! After a brief break, we’re back with turf tips, leaf talk, and one hardy Texas native. Lawns are hanging on after weeks of heat, but cooler nights (hello, 60s!) mean recovery is near.

Leaves are starting to drop, just a few for now, not full cleanup season yet. Thinking about topdressing? Early October looks ideal. And if your Texas Sage is blooming, legend says rain’s on the way. I’ll take any hint we can get.
