New and returning council members sworn in
Rollingwood City Council opened its Nov. 17 meeting by seating two returning members and one newcomer following the Nov. 4 election. Brook Brown and Phil McDuffee returned to their seats, while Kevin Schell joined the council in place of outgoing member Alec Robinson. Schell previously served on the city’s Board of Adjustment. All three candidates ran unopposed.
Mayor Gavin Massingill welcomed the new council lineup and offered congratulations to Schell. Council also approved a resolution recognizing Robinson, who was elected in 2021. He thanked the community for the chance to serve and said the past four years had been an honor. In addition, council member Sara Hutson was selected to continue as mayor pro tem.
Street improvement contract approved
Council members also voted to move forward with road work on three Rollingwood streets. Bennett Paving was awarded a 332,904 dollar contract for the city’s 2025 Mill and Overlay Project.
Work will include milling and new overlay on:
• Three sections of Hatley Drive
• Wallis Drive
• Edgegrove Drive
Funding for the project was included in the city’s 2025 26 budget. The city has set a 21 day window for the improvements to be completed once work begins.
Rollingwood’s latest meeting blended new leadership and infrastructure planning in a way that keeps the small city moving steadily ahead.
