Facing a decade of major infrastructure work, Central Texas agencies have launched a formal partnership to help residents stay informed and better manage the disruptions ahead.
The Central Texas Construction Partnership Program, or CPP, brings together transportation leaders from across the region to coordinate timelines, share data, and streamline outreach as more than $20 billion in projects take shape.
A regional alliance
Founding members of the CPP include the City of Austin, Travis County, TxDOT, the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority, the Austin Transit Partnership, CapMetro, and the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization. Additional agencies are expected to join as the program develops.
These groups are leading a wide range of high-impact projects—from expanding I-35 and building light rail lines to major road improvements under city and county bond programs. Officials say planning together is the only way to avoid compounding disruptions.
Centralized tools for travelers
To help the public navigate the work ahead, a new CPP website is already live. A regional mobile app called CTX GO will follow by 2027, offering real-time updates on closures and delays. A dedicated hotline will also route questions to the right agency.
Jim Dale, deputy transportation director for Austin, said the goal is to make the process seamless. “People shouldn’t have to figure out which agency is responsible. They just need the right information, fast,” he said.
Encouraging smarter travel
Another key focus of the CPP is encouraging transportation alternatives. Agencies are working with partners like Movability to reduce roadway demand and promote transit use, flexible work schedules, and other strategies.
Some of this work is backed by a $48 million federal climate grant. Funds are going toward new mobility hubs and improvements to CapMetro and CARTS transit systems.
What’s next
The City of Austin has approved up to $4 million over two years to support the effort. Other agencies will finalize their contributions as the funding agreement is completed this summer.
