Lake Travis ISD students scored well above the state average on the Spring 2025 STAAR exams, according to results released June 17 by the Texas Education Agency.

The STAAR test categorizes student performance as “did not meet,” “approaches,” “meets,” or “masters” grade level. A score of “approaches” is considered passing and suggests a student is likely to succeed in the next grade with additional academic support.

District performance at a glance

Of the 15 tested subjects in grades three through eight, Lake Travis ISD saw year-over-year gains in seven, declines in seven, and no change in one. Most of the declines were small, with only one subject dropping by double digits.

Seventh grade math saw the steepest decline, falling from 72 percent to 61 percent. Despite this, many other scores either improved or remained steady.

Reading remains a strong point

Reading scores either improved or held steady across most grade levels. Only fifth and eighth grade reading saw a slight decrease, each dropping by two to three percentage points.

Statewide, reading was a bright spot as well. The TEA noted that scores in reading have now surpassed pre-pandemic levels, pointing to signs of academic recovery.

Commissioner highlights recovery

Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath said the gains in reading are encouraging. He added that while some improvements were seen in math, it remains an area that needs more attention.

The TEA described seventh grade math as one of the few areas that dipped modestly at the state level, which mirrors the results seen in Lake Travis ISD.

Accountability ratings still strong

Lake Travis ISD received a B in the 2023 A–F Accountability ratings, scoring 89 out of 100 possible points. The TEA released the delayed ratings in April after a lengthy legal challenge.

Among the 11 rated campuses in the district, six received an A and five received a B.
