There’s nothing on the calendar this weekend. Nothing.

And it has me in a mild panic.

Every night and weekend lately has been packed with class parties, end-of-year events, swim meets, and some sort of field trip scramble. So when my wife and I realized we had actual free time coming up, we just sort of… stared at each other. What do we do?

Don’t get me wrong—I’m thrilled. But also slightly uneasy. Is this what summer is supposed to feel like? Is this what it used to feel like, before we turned childhood into a three-month logistics puzzle made of camps, activities, and snack schedules?

Maybe I’ll just sit on the front porch with some sweet tea and wave at people.

🚨 Bee Cave Approves $31M Joint Public Safety Building

Bee Cave voters have greenlit a new $31 million Public Safety Building that will house both Bee Cave Police and Lake Travis Fire Rescue. The 36,000-square-foot facility will feature shared spaces to boost coordination and emergency response for the growing area.

Construction is set to begin in late 2025, with the City covering $17.9 million of the cost through certificates of obligation—without raising taxes. Funding approval heads to City Council on July 29.

This marks a big step in public safety investment for Bee Cave residents.

🌊 Barton Springs Pool Staying Open Until 10 p.m.

Despite a posted sign suggesting otherwise, Barton Springs Pool will not be closing early this summer. The City of Austin confirmed hours will remain unchanged—open daily until 10 p.m.

While officials had considered a small cutback to reduce costs, no final decision was made, and no changes are moving forward for now. Future adjustments are still possible as city departments work on budget cuts, but for now, your summer evening swims are safe.

This week’s landscaping update comes with critters, weather chaos, and seriously happy grass. Copperheads are making surprise appearances in beds and tall grass (yikes), June bugs are out in full bonk-mode (and hinting at possible grub damage), and last week’s wild storms brought lawn-loving rain—plus the occasional airborne trampoline.

The result? Some of the best-looking grass we’ve seen all year. Just keep an eye out for sneaky lawn fungus as the moisture lingers.
