A creative space in the trees

At 100 Lake Hills Dr S, Austin, Pot Daddy Studio offers one of the most unique art experiences in town. The climate-controlled glass dome sits among lush greenery, filled with soft light and plants that set a calm, inspiring mood. Guests often say the space feels a little magical, the kind of place where beginners and seasoned potters alike can relax and get messy.

How the classes work

Each two-hour session takes participants through the full process. You will start by learning to throw clay on the wheel, then move into shaping and glazing. Instead of keeping the piece you make, you take home a finished piece created in a previous class. The result is part art lesson, part community connection, blending creativity across many hands. With only eight spots per class, the setting stays intimate and supportive.

The Pot Daddy touch

Founder John David Rutkauskas built the studio in 2023 out of his own love for pottery, sparked during the pandemic. His donation-based model keeps the classes accessible, with a suggested range of $50 to $100. Students love the little extras too, like jumpsuits and Crocs for the messy parts, and the patient instructors who make the process approachable. It has quickly become a go-to spot for date nights, group outings, and anyone curious about clay.
