Know Your Neighbors

“Get to know your neighbors” sounds like another thing to add to an already-full calendar.

So make it smaller.

Start with the house on your left. Then the right. Maybe the people across the street.

Say hi. Walk over when you see them outside. Offer to help with something. Spend 15 minutes talking instead of waving through the windshield.

We’re incredibly grateful for our neighbors. Some of our best friends live a couple hundred yards away from us, and that proximity is honestly life-changing.

Community doesn’t have to be complicated.

Sometimes it starts 50 feet from your front door.

Cheers,

Nolan

⛳ New Golf Club Coming to West Lake Hills

The Gist: The Mackenzie Club, a private indoor golf and social club, is opening early next year on Addie Roy Road between downtown and Spanish Oaks. It’s built as a second home for serious golfers, not a replacement for your primary club. Eight TrackMan Suites, a Performance Lab, PGA coaching, chef-driven dining, and a Recovery Suite with sauna and cold plunge round out the offering.

Why It Matters: If you’re a golfer looking for a year-round practice space and gathering spot, this gives West Austin another upscale option close to home.

Lee

Lee's Kitchen opened in 2023 with a focus on authentic Asian dishes made for sharing, like drunken noodles, lemongrass stir-fry, shaken beef, and garlic prawns. The restaurant has a relaxed vibe, friendly staff, and a private patio that works for small gatherings or larger parties.

If you're planning a birthday, business meeting, or family dinner and want food that feels generous and tastes like someone put real care into it, this is worth a call. They're also dog-friendly on the patio so bring your pup along!

Mature shade tree in a Central Texas yard

🌳 The best time to plant a tree is today

There's an old proverb every homeowner eventually learns the hard way.

The best time to plant a tree was 10 years ago. The second best time is today. Here in Central Texas, fall gives you a rare shot to make up for lost time — cooler air and warm soil let young trees settle in and focus on what really matters:

ROOTS. ROOTS. ROOTS. 🌳

Here's why shade trees are worth planting now:

  • Lower energy bills = a mature shade tree can meaningfully cut AC costs
  • Higher property value = mature trees add real curb appeal
  • Cooler yard = usable outdoor space even in July and August
  • Long-term payoff = every year you wait is a year of shade you'll never get back

Planting now gives roots time to establish before next summer's heat comes roaring back — and a young tree in the ground today is a canopy over your yard for decades to come.

Check out our guide to the best shade trees for Central Texas HERE.
