Kids today are almost never bored. Honestly, neither are adults.

There's always a screen within arm's reach.

But some of the best stuff happens after boredom kicks in. Forts get built. Games get invented. Somebody finally picks up a book.

So we try to let our kids be bored sometimes. They complain for about 20 minutes… and then they figure something out.

I should probably try it myself.

The Gist: Bee Cave is in the running for the 2026 Scenic City People's Choice Award, honoring Texas communities that prioritize beautification, green space, and smart planning. The city has held Texas Scenic City certification since 2021. Neighbors can cast their ballot online, with voting limited to one submission per IP address. Voting closes October 30.

Why It Matters: It is an easy way for us to show pride in the local Hill Country landscape and back community efforts that maintain the area's natural charm. The winner will be named on November 12 at the Texas Municipal League conference.

🛰️ Bee Cave tech firm launches first satellite into orbit

The Gist: Bee Cave Parkway-based CesiumAstro launched its first fully built satellite, Element-1, aboard SpaceX’s Transporter-18 mission on October 1. The spacecraft hitched a ride from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California alongside 129 other payloads before deploying into low Earth orbit about an hour after liftoff.

Why It Matters: While CesiumAstro previously built communications hardware for other spacecraft, Element-1 represents its first complete satellite designed right here in Bee Cave. It also highlights the growing economic impact of the company's new $500 million, 270,000-square-foot headquarters and manufacturing facility, which is expected to bring over 500 jobs to the area.
