Halloween brings out an interesting side of a neighborhood.

For most of the year, we tell our kids not to walk up to strangers’ houses and ask for things. Then, one night in October, we send them out with a bag and encourage volume.

And somehow, it works.

People sit in their driveways. Neighbors who usually exchange a quick wave end up talking for twenty minutes. Somebody puts far too much effort into a skeleton display, and the rest of us benefit.

I’m a fan.

There aren’t many occasions left where the whole point is to walk around your neighborhood and knock on doors. Halloween still gives us that.

Of course, the kids are mostly evaluating our candy selection. You can be a wonderful person all year and still lose considerable standing by handing out raisins.

Enjoy the costumes. Talk to your neighbors. Buy something you won’t mind eating if there are leftovers.

Cheers,
Nolan

Why It Matters: Fans can get their favorite sweets again, just in time for the holidays! Orders begin shipping November 1, though the Airport Boulevard shop remains closed. For now, you can order your favorites online.
